Always been curious.. so whats the real deal with why creditors are always reluctant to help people out in removing derogatory items on credit. It seems they love putting bad things on people's credit.

So whats the advantage they gain by leaving negative items on there? As a lay person, I'd think that if the credit bureau came to me as a creditor asking me to verify an account that's been closed out long ago, I'd just say.. "oh just change whatever you want.. I've got better things to do than worry about this long forgotten about account". But it seems like creditors will do their best to validate it even if it's more work for them.

Whats the deal? Thanks!
