Joanne is mistaken in her advice.
Send a dispute/validation letter to the reporting creditor, dispute the entry as "not mine" to the credit bureau. DO NOT refer to ANYONE with the "correct" information.If this was a deficiency judgment it would have had to have been filed within a few months after the repo. Auto repo laws are VERY different than credit card debts or other types of debts.THIS IS NOT YOUR DEBT- someone -perhaps with a similar name,had their file mixed up with yours when the debt was "bundled" and resold.Use the "Identity Theft" dispute /validation letter. Send both the CA and the CRA letters RRR.
