What do you mean "gone to collections"?
Who contacted you, and how did they do it? Phone? Letter?
If by phone it is probably one of the latest scam cons by scavenger fraud "collection agencies".They get names and info from very old records and try to extort $$ from people, usually by teling them to wire funds.
