Charge offs

I have 3 charge offs from 8/2000. All 3 are credit cards. I have maintained good credit since this time. I never signed for these accounts. They were obtained as joint accounts and then signed over to me. The original signer on the accounts had their name taken off. My question is should I dispute them with the CRA as not mine, or do I dispute with the CA? I tried to make arrangements with OC, but was told they had been sold. I am paying dearly in high interest on other accounts since 9/2000. Any advice is appreciated.
I live in the state of MO.
