Prior to Dec. 1997, the "starting date" for reporting is the date the creditor "charged off" the account. If you dispute to the CRA's AND you have copies of letters or bills that show the account was in default prior to 1997, you can claim the report as "over-age". However, if you have no such proof, it may be difficult to get the CRA's to remove.
