I am new to all of this "trying to repair my messed up credit" stuff. I am looking for some advice. I have several outstanding debts and am getting confussed at which agency owns which account. It seems to me as if these accounts are being passed around so quickly that I can not pin anything down.
The one company I did manage to contact "claims" I owe $922.43, when I asked them to verify this amount with the original creditor, they sent me a generic printout with the original creditors name, my original account #, a charge-off date of 1998 and a principal balance of $543.65.
My question is 2 fold. Firstly, can I contact the original debtor myself and dispute the $389.10 that I am being charged in intrest? Secondly, if I pay the principal balance can I ever be required to pay the intrest?
