CAMCO and old debt

I got a call out of nowhere from CAMCO company. I did not know who was calling since my credit report is ok after years of getting things back in shape. The person who left the message on my machine did not identify his company so I called back only to find out he said an attorney in my county was going to sue me for an old credit card debt (from 1993). I did acknowledge I had had the debt but that I believe it was taken care of a long time ago. He kept pressuring me to make a settled payment and put it on my credit card. I refused and told him I needed to go back through old records to see if I indeed owed anything. I have not spoken to anyone since but they keep calling and leaving messages on my answering machine. I just sent a letter telling them to never contact me about this alleged debt. I also asked for validation of the debt and under what state and federal law they are seeking collection. Any suggestions on dealing with this company, CAMCO? Did I open myself up to anything by talking to them?
