When was the last payment you made on the debt ? The Statute of Limitations may have run out, and that varies by state. If the SOL has run out, you don't have to pay it. They could still try and sue you (typical scare tactic), but if the SOL has run out, you would go to court with any proof you have of the last time you paid on it and cite the SOL as your defense. The judge will dismiss their lawsuit.
