Question about DOLA and SOL...

I have looked all over and can not seem to find an answer to this anywhere. Maybe someone here knows? I live in Calif. Last payment to OC was 10/97. I stupidly sent a CA a check in Jan - 1999. I sent it with the "payment stub" in the letter requesting payment. The check went uncashed for 45 days, so I put a stop payment on it. They finally tried to cash it. I have confirmation from the bank of the stop payment, and of the fact that it was attempted to be cashed and that it wasn't. The debt was apparently in process of being sold to another CA because the next communication I had received was from a new CA, not even MENTIONING the fact that the payment I sent did not go through. It was as if it had never happend. I have a CR with the 10/97 date on it as DOLA, prior to the attempted payment. Now, several CAs later, the DOLA is showing as 2/99. Is this a valid DOLA even though the payment was stopped? Is this something I can dispute? Thanks, C
