Exactly!! One of the best defenses against this type of thing is to be a good deadbeat. Send a C&D - CAMCO may ignore it, don't be surprised. Watch your credit reports for activity from them, including inquiries (that's called "poisoning" your file), but don't talk to them once you know what this is. They will try anything - the people calling you work on commission - they don't know or care about laws, they just want money.

These are the guys where you can have some fun, if you like. ;) put the 3 year old on the phone to talk about his day, speak another language, if you can (or fake it), blow your whistle (sorry to those who are offended, but these people are extortionists, IMO). You can just put the phone down without hanging up, and walk away. They will spend some time talking to the phone, but you won't hear it, so you've wasted their time, frustrated them, and they can't call you back, cause your phone is off the hook!!! ;)Do something different each time. They will go away. They want money, not trouble from an informed consumer.

As far as calling your job and getting you in trouble at work, perhaps the explanation that this is a scam operation (it is) will get your co-workers and boss on your side. THEY should tell the callers not to call you there anymore. Document each time they do this on your calendar or datebook. If CAMCO still calls after being told not to, send them another C&D, tell them you have documentation AND witnesses to their abusive practices and you are going to sue them the next time they call. Then do it.

Linda
