Virginia courts are a bitch on collections. Can you afford an attorney of your own? Make sure you get one who is sympathetic - usually, bk lawyers are sympathetic with people in trouble.

If not, then definitely show up in court, and take your receipts (and anything else you can find) with you - just in case you need them. Ask for a continuance. Tell the judge you need time to see if you can find records relating to the account.
