At this point, however, several credit card companies are offering rebuilding programs to folks who successfully complete credit counseling. Citibank is one of them.

I wouldn't say "forget about your credit rating" however - keep an eye on your reports, and start rebuilding as soon as possible. Credit has become so important these days that you just can't afford not to keep your defenses up. It affects your ability to get a place to live, your insurance premiums, your job....

When this is over, it will be just like someone coming back from bankruptcy.
