I am new to this forum and have a story like everyone else. My wife and I had excellent credit up until a year ago. I, for some reason, thought that we should consolidate our CC debt into one payment to save stamps and the occasional, "I forgot to send the payment." Anyway, we had eight accounts that we had no problems paying, but we were tired of sending eight different bills each month. I figured I would go online and seek the help of someone to pay my bills for me. Im not gonna lie, we had a little over $30,000 in debt, but it was manageable, until now. I found a place called Berkshire Financial. I called and they were just the happiest people in the world. They were gonna drop interest rates to next to nothing and I was gonna be, "debt free", in no time. Well, its been a year now and I have paid this company over $12,000 dollars. My CC debt is now much greater than it was when I started and my credit is totally shot. My poor wife has worse credit than I do now! The company wont talk to us and when they do, they are of course , "looking into the problem". To make a long story short, What can I do?? I am under contract with these people and they are saying they are making payments, but in reality, what they are doing is stealing from me! I know I am responsible for the debts, but in the contract it states that this company is representing me..Does that mean anything?? Should I get a lawyer and if I do, what can be done?? Im really stuck here. Im stressing big time and I just dont know what to do. I called the BBB and they obviously dont care..Please Help, someone.... Its amazing when you try and do the right thing and it comes back to bite you in the behind. Also, this is a for profit organization, so I am actually paying someone a monthly fee to get me deeper in debt. Can a laywer help me. Any suggestions would help..
