A CA sent me a letter today about $14.28! It seems Blockbuster video claimed that we owe them that amount because we didn't return videos on time. I never heard from these people. I checked my 3 credit reports immediately and nothing derogatory was in there. I went to the store, paid the amount and asked my account be closed. The manager comes running and apologizes and offers to give the fee back and after much screaming on my part, I agreed to stay on. I asked for a document saying that I don't owe them anything. He says only headquarters who sent my account to collections can do that. He will ask them to send me a doc. All I have is a credit card receipt showing a payment and immediate credit.

I am in the process of buying a home. I don't want this thing to screw it up in anyway. Should I send the CA a cease & desist RR? Can a CA put a negative tradeline in the credit report after getting a C&D? Or should I send validation? Thanks.
