Descrepancy in LA from CA

Credit card company reports last activity as 1998. I do have old(1998)as wells as new (2002)stating last activity as 1998. This account should have been paid in full but is now back on my reports since 2001 but last activity is still 1998. Have to file an answer for court. According to my records SOL has expired but I don't know what this payment is they are referring to. I certainly have not sent any CA money and in any case, no-one has credited it to the account since 1998 so where would this money be and why is it not listed with the CRA's?
