It would not be a lie or defraudment to dispute an acct. as "not mine", especially if its an old acct. It could very well mean, you do not recall possessing a line of credit with this creditor. All it says, is you are disputing the debt as being yours. The CRA, CA, or OC must provide legal proof that the debt is yours. If that happens, YOU CAN remove the notatation "not mine". It was part of the stratedy I used in cleaning up my credit. However, disputing an acct. as being paid in full with no proof, could lead to other problems and situations. You could simply say, you are in the process of validating that the debt is indeed yours and that you are bound in some way of paying it. No harm in that.
