Cannot get negative info deleted from my record.

I had a negative collection account listed with all
three CRA's. (There were extenuating circurmstances
involved in why this account was placed for collection
but all in all the negative information was correct.)
I contacted the collection agency and was able to
convince them to delete the negative entry from my
record. Plus they sent me a letter stating that they
would contact all three CRA's and delete the account in
question. The letter was dated in June and stated
" Please be advised that the above referenced account
will be deleted from the credit file of Mr. XXXX due to
a billing error .
This deletion has been reported to the three major credit
bureaus
: Trans Union, Equifax & Experian.

If you have any questions regarding this deletion,
please call me at the above number

Thank you

XXXXX"

A month passed and all three CRA's still carried the
negative account on my record. I called the collection
agency
and they told me that the deletion process can
take 6 to 8 weeks. So I waited. A few weeks later I
contacted all three CRA's and disputed the collection
account. Experian reported back that the account was
deleted from my record. (account deleted 10 days from
day dispute was started) Transunion reported back that
the account was deleted from my record. ( account
deleted 21 days from day dispute was started) Exquifax
reported back and the account was verified as being
correct and that it would stay on my record. I promptly
called Equifax and told them about the letter I had
recieved from the collection agency. I gave them the
name and phone number of the person who was on the
letter. I offered to send them a copy of the letter
but the CRA agent told me that the name and number of
the person would be sufficient and so commenced another
dispute on this account with Equifax. I just recieved
the results and the account was verified as being correct
again! I don't get it. Why would the other two CRA's
delete it while Equifax remains steadfast in keeping
this negative account in my record?

I called Equifax today and requested the name and
number of the source who verified the account as
accurate. They gave me the name of the person who
signed the letter stating that the accounts would be
deleted from my record. Any opinions, or suggestions
on how I should handle this?
Thankyou
