An old Charge Off with a new date

I started a business in the early 90's which went downhill
from the beginning. During that time I had a line of
credit for over $5,000 with a local bank which I had
trouble paying from early on in the business. It's been
a least 5 or 6 years since I made a payment (maybe longer)
and longer still since I paid it on time. I recently
got a credit report from Experian
and saw this line of
credit listed as a Charge
Off under Revolving Accounts
and showing a Date Reported as Aug 1998. This makes it
look very current on my credit activity instead of
something from my past. Can the bank do this?
