The fact that a delinquent debt has been paid does
*not* mean that it will be removed from the consumer's
credit report. The item will generally just be
marked "Paid," and will remain until the expiration
of the seven-year time limit.

Get copies of all three of your credit reports.
(Go to the Credit Tools section to find out how.)

If your reports are still listing the account as
delinqent (unpaid), then write to the bureaus,
stating that the item has been paid, and requesting
that they re-investigate. If the creditor still
tells them that there is a balance, request the
name and contact info for whoever supposedly confirmed
this.

Good Luck.
