: I recently went to a car dealership to look at : new dodge neons. The first thing the salesman : wanted to do was to run a credit check to "be : sure I qualify". I gave verbal agreement to this : but signed nothing. I later found out that doing : a credit check lowers your rating, and the FTC : has issued some law (in 98) telling car dealers : to NOT run checks until a purchase price has : been agreed upon, so I was angry and wish to : take action. Am I screwed because I gave verbal : agreement? : I went there today to ask for my application : info back, but they refused. Do I have any : recourse? Do any of you know of links that I : could look at to see my rights in this situtation? : : Any help would be appreciated.
Write to the CRA
and inform them that you believe a credit
report
was acquired without your written consent, and give them the name of the compnay that ran the check. There is an authorization form that you must sign before he is allowed to ckeck. A lot of places have
accounts with the CRA
to speed approval process,
which unfortunately opens the door for a lot of abuse.
