There would be two different SOLs involved. One
is the SOL
on whatever financial obligation didn't
get paid as a result of the check bouncing, which would be a civil (lawsuit-type) issue. The other SOL, the one you are concerned with is the *criminal* one, the length of which would likely depend on the amount of the check or other details
that will distinguish a misdemenor from a felony.
Try calling your local prosecutor's office (from a payphone if you are paranoid), and ask them. If you cannot afford to pay up, then the recipient may or may not decide to take the effort of referring it for prosecution. The primary penalities are monetary (e.g. three or four times the face value of the check), and failure to pay at that point can result in an arrest warrent.
