Thanks for the info.

I just got a message on my machine today from the CA that has this loan. It's a Stafford loan and since the CA has it, it's now over $16,000. It was under $10,000 before. I plan on doing all the communication in writing, as I don't want to talk to them on the phone since anything can be said and/or agreed to that way.

I suppose I should send them a letter stating what you said about rehabbing it, tell them I'm not currently working, ask them for copies of all documents and to not contact me by phone.

Can they garnish for a student loan in a state that does not allow wage garnishments? Once I complete my training course, I may very well be working for a national company as a statutory employee (they'll take out fed taxes, but nothing else) and I'll be working from my home, but most working for their Pennsylvania office. 100% of wages are protected from garnishment in PA, but live in a state that does allow garnishment.
