My check was recently declined at a department store, I had no idea why, so I contacted the number they gave me. I was told that i had bounced a check to them in August of 2001, I told them that neither they or my bank had informed me of this. They were polite enough about it and gave me the number to the collections office so I could get a mailing address to send this payment, which was only $44. I called the "company" and was not given any company name when a man named mark answered the call. I asked him for their mailing address, he rudley asked who I was, io told him and he asked why i thought I needed their mailing address, i said that Certegy had refered me to them to make a payment on an account, he said they don't handle anything that would be called an account, and I said that I guess it would be a collection, and he said" Oh, you mean that worthless check you wrote to Office Depot!" I hung up i was so shocked that he was so abrasive when i was just calling for info. andi had never received any request for payment from them. I'm not trying to be naive but are they allowed to be so rude?
