Discover will more than likely sue, they filed suit against my mother over $2500.00.
I did a little screaming & got a payment arrangement set up on the account, however she did have to a default judgment agreement?? Basically saying she would not dispute a judgment if she defaulted on the payment arrangements.
My suggestion would be to either see a lawyer or to send a certified letter offering settlement or payment arrangements. I would also send it CC to Discover, as this is more likely to make the attorney respond. Also keep in mind this may be nothing more than an intimidation tactic. You may do better to wait and see if a summons is served prior to responding to the attorney.
