I had an account w/First Union that was closed and charged off in 1995. I paid the amount in full and didn't find out until this year that it was on my CR's as not showing any payment and a charge-off. Was reported on my CR's as Wachovia (sp?) National Bank. I figured rather than opening another can of worms I would hope it would drop off of my CR's, as it was supposed to do. It dropped off of my credit reports (finally) last month and, at no time have I heard anything form Wachovia. I'm keeping a close eye, though as old debts don't seem to ever really 'disappear', rather they change hands and come back endlessly.:-( I figure it will be easier to deal with some CA who might buy the debt in the future b/c it was paid in full, more than 7 yrs old, and long past the SOL in Arkansas.
I know this doesn't help your situation much, but I was and still am surprised that I never heard anything from collections at Wach. National Bank?? (not that that's a bad thing, mind you!)
