I think I answered the poster's question in a nice way...anything over $600 can be reported to the irs via a 1099C....many times the forgiven debt is not reported to the irs...if you want to keep track of your forgiven debt and pay on it voluntarily then you are more patriotic than most. I agree that one should be aware that a 1099C can be issued but for smaller amounts it is just not worth the bank's time and expense to track and report.

In order to make a point to me you do not need to shout words for emphasis as my hearing is just fine...thank you
