Ever since I bought my house in 1999, my credit is becoming more ruined everyday - actually, I don't have to see a credit report to know it is trashed. The same month I bought my house, I could no longer make payments to my three card debts, $1300, $700, and $500. The lesser one I am almost done paying off, they were fair and reduced the amount. The $700 debt is now approx $1100, I will go to CCC to deal with them. The problem is that I can't afford to pay them more than $50 monthly each! That doesn't even cover the interest! The $1300 debt is now approx $3000, at 24.9% interest.

In Oct. 2001 I recieved a letter from a lawyer's office, I responded with a letter explaining my situation, I'm a single mom who almost went into foreclosure recently when I changed jobs. I also explained what I could pay. The response was another like the first, a threat.

Now the big problem : A server showed up at my mother's house last week to issue a supoena, she said I had not been there in a while. I don't know why she did that, she doesn't either! Of course he did not leave a phone number. Now what is going to happen? It has to be them, it is not possible to be anything else. Also, can they garnish my wages in Florida? Is to late to let CCC handle this? I really can't afford a lawyer, but do I need one?

I dispute the amount, because it is mostly high-rated interest, which I had told them repeatedly that it would be a while before I could make payments, and to please stop adding the interest. I now have a much better paying job, so I am ready to pay.

I was told by another collection agency who stated that the original debt was approx $970. I have this debt through no fault of my own. All the problems started after I bought the house. Did that without a lawyer and was legally victimized by crooks, my interest rate is 11.2%, that's another story.

Any info would be greatly appreciated!!
