The credit agency is correct,your divorce decreee has no legal standing with regard to your debts.If you had a home owned jointly at the time of your divorce,and had quit claimed your interest to her, and any mortgage would still have been a joint responsibility unless the bank had agreed to take you off.Your best bet is to hope that your contacting the collection agencies did not set off a chain of events that would be worse than bad credit. If you live in a State where you have a long SOL, now that hey know where you are, you may be sued for the debts.
