If it's listed on your credit report, they can see it. If you do anything that draws attention to yourself, it may come out, such as applying for a job/license/credit where a background or credit check is done.

If you don't tell, some collectors will call your neighbors or family to find out - it's illegal, but they do it. Skip tracers can usually find out, if it is enough money to go to the trouble, that could happen.

Best thing to do is keep a real low profile.
