It's to bad about your bank, after all these years to be treated like this.
They should just issue you a credit card as they know your history since they have been your bank.
I have never even stepped foot into my credit union, I became a member recently (though my husband). My communication has been through e mails. and telephone, they have treated me very well.

Here are excerpts from my credit union, this proves that customer service is still alive and well.

We approve credit with less than perfect CBR's all the time so that alone
should not discourage you. If your credit card is approved and you want to
be a user of this card, you would need to open up your own share account
and be a primary member. It does state on the application that both users
of a visa card need to be primary owners of a share account. Please let me
know what you would like for me to do. It will be my pleasure to serve you
the best way I can. Bye for now. Jackie

Good morning Christine,
Opening an account has nothing to do with if you
are employed or not. It just makes you a member of the credit union. I
can have the visa card preapproved before you open the account in case it
is not approved. I don't see why it would not be approved though
especially if you ask for a low line of credit say like $1,000.00. I will
need to pull a CBR to bring it before the credit committee though but the
letter you emailed me with all the explanations will work well in your
favor. I will wait for your reply before pulling one. On a scale of of
1-10 with 10 being the most possible, I would say that your chances are 8
for being approved. Talk to you later. Jackie
