It is much harder now than it was this time last year. Too many of those types defaulted on the companies that gave them a chance (so to speak). Now those companies are in trouble. So, Providian and Metris (the big issuers of sub-prime cards without up front fees) now have financial woes and restrictions have been place on them regarding the quality of their accounts - they can no longer issue cards to people with bad credit.

If you are trying to rebuild your credit, give us an idea what is actually on your report, and maybe we can make some suggestions on how to go about it. But the days of $1,000 unsecured cards from Providian are over, don't waste your time looking.
