Its more than likely that the 'attorney' is just another collection agency, its very common for them to do this. If the debt was incurred in FL, then, as you stated, the SOL has most certainly expired.

I believe that, even though you've sent validation requests, you can still send a Cease and Desist letter. Tell them never to contact you about the debt again as the SOL has expired. I'd make sure you have proof of the last payment date, 'cause if the scumbags do try to sue, you can use it in court to when you cite the SOL as your defense. This would also be on your credit report as 'date of last activity' and that would be enough as well.
