I am just now starting to clean up my credit, but from what I have read so far, I am under the impression that you have to negotiate with the debt collector who reported the charge-off to the CB. Do not send any money to them until you get in writing that they are willing and prepared to change the status from charged off to paid . I have read , also , that some debt collectors will not agree to this. But its worth trying..
