I just found out about a week ago that my dear husband has run up a large credit card debt while I was busy doing something so trivial as having his children. His elaborate castle of lies started coming down when the collection agents started calling. There are several different accounts, most with sub-prime providers. There are also loans in my name and his through sub-prime lenders. I found out yesterday that we have a chexsystem record and are unable to change banks, although we still have a checking account somehow. We live in California, so my credit history has already merged with his. My husband makes a good income, and we are not going to have to file for bankruptcy.

What is the best way for me to handle each individual account? My goal is to pay it off with the least number of fees and get the accounts closed and change all of the addresses of record to my home rather than my husband’s sneaky online service that he used to hide the bills. Are there form letters out there for this purpose?

Thank you for your help,

Rhi
