I'll keep it short-

I fell behind on my GM Card payments. I sent what I could when I could, but the balance crept up to roughly $7500.00.

My husband got a better job, I graduated college at the ripe old age of 42 and am now in the job market, and we decided to make some needed repairs to our home. We got an equity loan with great terms and paid off just about all of our outstanding creditors.

I sent $5,000.00 to Household Finance/GM Credit Card on 6/29.

Not knowing the check cleared on 7/5, I get an call from the law offices of Bronson & Migliaccio, LLP up in beautiful NY.

Clerk tells me I am being sued. Can I send $$$ via phone check? I say I can pay, but not over the phone...sorry! I tell her to send information. She agrees but presses me for fax number, etc. I know she's just doing her job, but all she gets from me is one of my e-mail addresses.

I check out this law office. It's a legit lawyer/shark/collection agent/insert your choice of expletive.

I just checked my bank balance online. Household cashed the check. This means they must deal with me directly. I am capable of paying off the balance in generous installments and intend to do so. Tonight, they get a letter from me.

Now, how do I tell the fine folks at Bronson and Migliaccio to uh, drop off the face of the planet?

I have to say that I have learned a lot from all of you good folks. Thanks in advance for the help!

Papillon-
