Lenders Pulling Credit Reports

My wife and I are getting ready to buy a house (hopefully) but I'm concerened about having our credit reports pulled by multiple lenders. We both have excellent credit scores (over 750 each) however, I've been told that your score can take a hit if your reports are pulled by lenders multiple times.
Unfortunately, most lenders will discuss their rates and programs over the phone, but they're not too interested in face to face, detailed meetings unless your willing to have them "pre approve" you, which means pulling your report. In the area I live, the real estate market is ridiculously hot... and pre qualifying letters are not enough. You pretty much have to have a pre APPROVAL letter and carry it with you if you want to look at a house.
Any suggestions for me?
