Depending on your State laws, unless as "Observer" said there are existing liens on the house,I do not see any way unsecured debt of a deceased homeowner can encumber the transfer of a homestead. These debts may indeed be beyond the SOL for any legal action, some may not even be hers. Many senior citizens are the victim of identity fraud and do not know it until they, (or their heirs) look at the credit reports.I would suggest you speak to a lawyer who is NOT a probate or real estate lawyer but perhaps more of a BK lawyer, they are MUCH more familiar with credit related legal problems.
