I do apologize. I have a very biased view against HEL's. In fact, the only way I would ever consider one would be to pay medical bills of a family member.

Had you posted your entire situation, my advice would have been far different. I agree with Why Chat. If this is a chronic problem, don't place your home at risk until you get some legal advice.
