Yes, there is a mortgage still on the home and you were right about the lein on the house. I was looking through her credit report today and noticed that the account that has resulted in the lein on the house is on there twice. The first time it's listed as a "charge off, account transferred or sold"from the original creditor, with a remaining balance of zero and the second time from the collection agency with the full balance of the debt remaining. (I pulled her credit report about a month ago and at that time the collection agency hadn't put a lein on her house yet) I guess I hadn't realized that a collection agency could put a lein on the house after the original creditor had charged the debt off.
