You are probably in error about whom you have been paying to "prevent" chargeoff.FDIC rules state that they must charge off an account when it goes beyond 180 days.Paying over the phone, with direct withdrawal from your checking account is VERY dangerous. You should request a statement, in writing, from your creditor as to the status of your account, close your checking account and re-open it,preferably at a different bank.As to making a "settlement" as long as you are within the time period for being sued NO ONE is going to settle, (especially if they can draw $$ from your checking account whenever they want to, and you would have little recourse)
