Presuming you mean you had a private loan for educational purposes from an institution and it was not backed by a Federal guarantee, (although I think you had better make sure),and that the SOL for being sued on a written contract has expired in your State, and it is on your credit report as a defaulted loan NOT Federally guaranteed, then it would be subject to the same 7 year reporting rule as any other derogatory information,unless a judgment was obtained against you, in which case the judgment would stay on for 7 years from the filing date.
