I am very sorry to hear of your problems. Has your father been legaly declared incompetant to handle his affairs? You need to make sure that everyone involved is legally notified of his status so that he does not make any decisions regarding his accounts. Are you SURE that they are all his? Frequently senior citizens are the victim of id theft. I would take the position, that every one of these accounts is NOT HIS until they furnish proof, with copies of applications, and in the case of the ones "joint" with your mother her signature also. Send these letters of validation/dispute together with a copy of your power of atty. and whateve other documentation you have relating to his incapacity. It probably would be best if the letters came from a law office. DO NOT ACCEPT, "STATEMENTS OF ACCOUNT" OR PRINTOUTS!

Once you have determined if any of these are verifiably your father's, and once you make sure your mother's name is removed, (if he signed her name, she will have to execute a "forgery" affadavit) Then you can deal with them.

Depending on how old these chargeoffs are, and what State your parents are in, there is a finite amount of time when any legal action to recover can be taken. If you wish, you can e-mail me for more help.
