Just to update, I dug up the original cancelled check that was for the full amount of $10,903. The final bill I received from Citibank was in January for $10,903. I have that bill.

Collectcorp claims they received an account for collections of $1k in feb. They refuse to provide any proof of this. Citibank won't even tell me if Collectcorp was hired by them.

It sounds like a giant scam to me- par for the course among these professional criminals otherwise known as debt collectors. That would explain why they tried to intimidate me into giving them my checking account number over the telephone.

They know I have money, and they just want to steal it.

ARGH. Isn't this type of behavior regulated by the government? I'd expect more honest dealings from the corner drug dealer!
