My husband made a purchase at a jewelry store about nine years ago where his family lives. We lived two hours away from the store at the time but knew they were reputable. Since then, we have moved to the same town.

I recently went to the store to purchase my daughter a class ring. I placed a down payment and they placed the order. I left.

The ring came in about ten days later and I went to the store and inquired about their credit program. I was approached by the salesman and he stated that he couldn't help me because my husband had an outstanding balance of $300. I was totally shocked and asked why he hadn't contacted us about this before. He stated that long distance calls were too expensive. I asked why they hadn't mailed anything or turned it over to a collector. No response. I then asked for a manager. He told me that my credit there was less than perfect. Needless to say I was embarrassed since other customers heard. I came home and my husband called. The manager denied that he did that in front of people.

That was before Christmas. We have just now started to receive things from them in the mail and every now and then there is something on the caller ID. They also call my mother-in-law and send mail to her home.

Can they send stuff or call her? Is there anything I can do about it?

Thanks in advance.
