I have to agree. I issued an security fraud ID alert on all three CRs, when my purse was stolen at an concert. The thief had access to my ss card, drivers license and credit cards. Immediately they began filling out applications and trying to get credit everywhere! The were unsuccessful, because of the fraud alert. Now, I will say this, two companies did run a credit check without calling me to verify that it was I that was requesting credit. Of course, they were denied the instant credit, due to my bad credit, but I contacted the companies by mail and had their inquiries removed. As for obtaining your credit reports online. It can be a hassle. However, you'd come out better making the extra effort to prove your identity than having to spend the next months or years clearing up inaccuracies on your credit report.
