If you brought it up to date 2 years ago, then they can sue you and get the money. Better check Why Chat's site for SC law regarding what they can do if they get a judgment. If this is the original creditor who has turned the account over to a regular (not collection) attorney), then this attorney does not fall under the FDCPA, and the validation letter does not mean diddly squat. I can't find out anything about this attorney online.

Just wait and see what the attorney does next, and go check for SC laws on judgments and garnishment, so you can be prepared.
