Need Lease Repo Help

Before I forget, I live, and all transactions took place within California.

In June of 2000, I went through a broker to lease my car, and ended up using Wells Fargo Auto Finance. After my dotcom bombed, I wasn't able to pay them for four months, and they repossessed the vehicle in October of 2001. Since repossession, I have received nothing from Wells Fargo - no phone calls, no letters - nothing. However, this February, I received a friendly COLLECTION NOTICE from OSI Collection Services, demanding $15k plus interest for a total of almost $19 thousand.

From reading Bill G's problem, and WhyChat's response, I am wondering if I should have received some official notification of the sale and/or final accounting of it everything. Or, does the collection agency just show up and say this is what you owe us? (I've paid them nothing, BTW)

How should I proceed with this? Thanks in advance.
