My husband and I have been receiving harrassing phone calls and messages for the past two months due to his parents writing bad checks and not paying their bills. Unfortunately, they had been putting our phone number on their bad checks and other things when they moved back from GA to NJ 6 months ago. We did not know they were using out phone number! We found out about the bad checks and debts when their bank called us and came right out and told me that a check written by my father inlaw had bounced and to please let him know. My husband and I nicely state to these collectors that his parents do not live with us, never have, and to please not call again. I even returned phone calls from the messages and let collectors know this. But the collectors keep calling my home to reach them. The one from this morning tops them all. We do not know what company it is but I identified myself to the collector as their daughter in law and that they do not live with us, not to call again etc... and I hung up. He called right back. My husband answered this time and explained again. The collector yelled at my husband and said that he will call everyday until he reaches them. My husband hung up. The person called a third time, and my husband asked to speak with his supervisor and explained the situation to the supervisor. The supervisor apologized to my husband for the caller's "attitude" and told my husband that they could not remove our number unless we tell them where my inlaws can be reached. I cannot approach my inlaws with this as we have had a falling out with them over this and other issues. Any suggestions out there? This is becoming quite a nussiance especially with a 10 month old sleeping at times.
