Each state is different, as I'm sure you know. "Cease & desist" letters don't work for orginal creditors. I live in Maine, where the Attorney General's Office has published a book on Consumer Law for us consumers. It's written in laymen's terms and outlines the basics of various consumer laws in Maine and is readily available at libraries and on the AG's web site. Should you be interested in taking a look at it, its address is http://www.state.me.us/ag/contents.htm. It's possible that your state might have one of these too.
