Gulf State linda or why chat please help

my husband and i are applying for a mortgage and the only blip i haqd on my credit report was from a company called Gulf State/compucred. I have ALWAYS paid my bills and i hvae never had any problems with any people. I dont understand this at all. I have never had anything to do with a Gulf State company. it also says under their name that "consumer disputes this account" ?????? im not disputing anything YET. But i DARM sure will be only problem is i have read all the stuff here about gulf state and none of it seems to be good. Seems like they are a get rich quick scam. am i right in assuming this?? i read something somewhere about complainging to the FLA atty gen office and the fed regulations commission?? PLEASE HELP the bank wants to pay them this $1985 that they say i owe before they will settle on the mortgage.
